desert water, desert light

*****

The following pieces are from the series desert water, desert light, which originally showed at DeGrazia's Little Gallery in Tucson, AZ from January 28 through February 10, 2006.

Each line is sandblasted into a two-inch by ten-inch mirror, mounted on masonite with its companion lines, and framed. Because of the reflective surface of the mirror, each piece changes character by the angle from which it is viewed.

There are twenty-one pieces in the series. Magrane considers each piece a poem itself, akin to a haiku or aphorism.

If the movie doesn't appear to be playing, or if you receive an error message, you may not have the necessary software. The movies are best viewed in Mozilla Firefox with QuickTime.)

The first is thirty seconds long, and shows the flickering reflection of a fire in the piece "water has its own":

The second is just over a minute long, and shows the piece "light's edge" and its changing reflections from various angles:

In addition to the mirror poem series, a companion desert water, desert light book of one hundred and twenty-one copies was printed.  Twenty-one are lettered "A" through "U" and accompany the corresponding piece in the series.  The other hundred are numbered.
